Australia - United States 'Open Skies' Agreement
The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government led air services talks with the United States in Washington on 12-14 February 2008 to negotiate a new air service framework between Australia and the United States of America.
Middle East Air Services Negotiations
The Department held air services negotiations with the General Civil Aviation Authority of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Dubai on 20 March 2007 and in Abu Dhabi on 21 March 2007. The negotiations finalised new air services arrangements which permit UAE carriers to double the number of services between the UAE and Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth by 2011.

Provides guidance for the development of a family assistance plan by all regular public transport (RPT) and charter operators providing passenger services to, from or within Australia outlining the steps an airline will take, in the unlikely event of an accident, to respond to the needs of victims and their families.

Currently, international airlines offering services to/from Australia are required to obtain approval for their schedules in accordance with provisions in the Air Navigation Regulations. While changes occur at regular intervals, all airlines must submit their core schedules for approval each March and October when the northern hemisphere moves in/out of daylight saving. These summaries provide a snapshot of the services being operated into/out of Australia.

Maintained in accordance with Section 49 of the International Air Services Commission Act 1992, this is an up-to-date register of capacity available to Australian airlines under Australia's air services agreements and arrangements.

International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
Established by the Convention on International Civil Aviation, signed in Chicago on 7 December 1944, ICAO is responsible for promoting the safety, regularity and efficiency of international civil aviation. Australia participated in the 1944 Convention, being one of the first States to ratify it, and has been a member since 1947 playing a major role its activities.
Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program
In 1992 the 29th Session of the ICAO Assembly adopted a resolution to establish a safety oversight programme. The programme was established in an effort to address concerns that some of ICAOs Contracting States were not carrying out their oversight functions.
International Air Services Commission (IASC)
Established under the International Air Services Commission Act 1992, the Commission determines the outcomes of applications by existing and prospective Australian airlines for capacity and route entitlements available under Australia's air services arrangements.

Public Consultation on the Cape Town Convention
Views are sought on the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment 2001 (Cape Town Convention) and its Protocol on Matters Specific to Aircraft Equipment, which seek to facilitate aircraft financing and investment.
