Following the recent CPSU media release and inquiries from The Canberra Times, the Department of Transport and Regional Services confirmed that it had recently experienced some significant difficulties with its information technology services.
"The Department has experienced a series of server crashes, some of which have resulted in data loss.
"We are working closely with our IT service provider (Advantra) to rectify the recent problems and to minimise the possibility of any future occurrences," said a Departmental spokesperson."
The Department has dealt with the server crashes by providing technical advice to Advantra when requested, regularly communicating with its own staff and maintaining close liaison with Advantra's management team in Canberra. The Department has also provided advice to staff to ensure that key documents and information remain available if servers are down.
Meetings have been held between senior Departmental personnel and Advantra executives about the issues and the Department believes Advantra is doing its best to resolve them.
"We have reason to expect a more stable operating environment in the very near future as a result of the actions that Advantra is taking," said a Departmental spokesperson.
