Renowned Australian Futurist Dr. Peter Ellyard is to visit the Wide Bay Burnett region thanks to the collaboration of the Federal Department of Transport and Regional Services, the Wide Bay Burnett Sustainable Region Advisory Committee and the Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce.
The Wide Bay Burnett Sustainable Region Advisory Committee, headed by Ms Diana Collins and comprising the Mayors of Hervey Bay and Isis Shire and members of the community and business sectors, is examining priorities for Wide Bay Burnett. This was seen as a necessary part of its initial considerations on how best to channel Federal Government funding under the Sustainable Regions Program in the region.
"There is Federal funding under the Sustainable Regions Program available to help bring about a strong, balanced future for the Wide Bay Burnett region. We want to see it used wisely to contribute to sustainable place to live, work and play,"Ms Collins said
The Committee will work with Dr Peter Ellyard to draw on their local knowledge so they can decide priorities for project funding. The idea is to build on the region's positive efforts to improve its economic and social standing by concentrating on those particular issues the Committee determines as vital to the sustainable future of the Wide Bay Burnett.
Members of the public will also get the chance to attend a presentation by Dr Ellyard, futurist and strategic analyst, who has a wealth of experience working with organisations and communities to help them plan for the future.
In partnership with the Federal Department of Transport and Regional Services, the Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce is to host Dr Ellyard who will give a one-hour public presentation. Steve Dixon, Chair of Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce, invites anyone with an interest in the sustainable future of the Wide Bay Burnett to come along to Dr Ellyard's talk on the 8th of August which will start at 6.00pm at the Kondari Resort, Urangan.
The Sustainable Regions Program is the centrepiece of the Federal Government's $115 million Stronger Regions, A Stronger Australia package released last year which aims to:
- Strengthen regional economic and social opportunities;
- Sustain our productive natural resources and environment;
- Deliver better regional services; and
- Help communities adjust to economic, technological and government induced change.
"The committee is totally committed to forming partnerships and seeking joint funding options to grow these funds," said Ms Collins.
Dr Peter Ellyard appears by arrangement with Saxton Speakers Bureau.
