17 March 2005
Mr Michael Mrdak has been appointed as Deputy Secretary of the Australian Government Department of Transport and Regional Services (DOTARS).
Secretary, Mike Taylor, praised Mr Mrdak for his ongoing commitment to the department and Government and congratulated him on his appointment.
"Mike has been a great contributor to the Government's transport and regional services portfolio for more than 17 years and has spearheaded many of the initiatives over that time," Mr Taylor said.
"The privatisation of Australia's federal aiports, management of Australia's non-self governing territories and, more recently, the AusLink and National Water initiatives provide enduring evidence of Mike's abilities and professionalism.
"Mike will also bring an exceptional ability to work cooperatively at all levels of government and industry in delivering results for the Government.
"The combined skills of my two deputies, Peter Yuile and Mike Mrdak, will make an excellent team, providing strong leadership and support to the department."
Mr Mrdak's appointment is effective immediately. He replaces previous deputy secretary, Lynelle Briggs, who took up the position of Australian Public Service Commissioner in November 2004.
