Small children can be impossible to see from inside a car, especially if they are immediately behind it. One child, generally a toddler, is run over in the driveway of their home every week in Australia. The vehicle is usually being driven by a parent, family member or friend. The brochure has been developed under the direction of the Motor Accidents Authority of NSW with the assistance of the ATSB. It is being distributed throughout Australia from April 2003 via General Practitioners and Child Care centres.

It is important that your vehicle offers you good protection from injury in a crash - and it is also important that your vehicle offers good protection to other road users.

Real world crash data analysed by Monash University's Accident Research Centre shows that some used vehicle models offer much better protection from death or serious injury in a crash than others.
