Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme
This scheme assists in alleviating the sea freight cost disadvantage incurred by shippers of eligible non-bulk goods moved between Tasmania and the mainland by sea, and from 1 July 2008 between King Island and the main island of Tasmania, and between Flinders Island and the main island of Tasmania.
Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme King Island and Flinders Island Intrastate component
For shipments from 1 July 2008 the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES) has been extended to include intrastate sea freight shipped between King Island and the main island of Tasmanian and between Flinders Island and the main island of Tasmania. This is in addition to the assistance currently available to the communities of King Island and Flinders Island under the existing interstate TFES when eligible sea freight is shipped to and from the mainland of Australia.
Bass Straight Passenger Vehicle Equalisation Scheme
This scheme assists in alleviating the cost of sea travel across Bass Strait for passengers accompanying a vehicle.
Tasmanian Wheat Freight Scheme
This scheme assists in alleviating the cost of shipping bulk wheat to Tasmania. Containerised shipments of wheat are eligible for a rebate under the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES).
Government's Response to the Productivity Commission Report
The Productivity Commission Inquiry into the Tasmanian Freight Subsidy Arrangements was released, on 24 May 2007. The Australian Government's Response to the Productivity Commissions Report was announced on 21 June 2007.
Reforms to the Tasmanian Freight Subsidy Arrangements
A Consultation Paper has been developed to facilitate discussions about the reforms flowing from the Government to the Productivity Commission Report into the Tasmanian Freight Subsidy Arrangements.
Maritime Industry Finance Company
The Maritime Industry Finance Company Ltd (MIFCo) provided assistance in connection with the reform and restructuring of the stevedoring industry through funding redundancy-related payments in the industry.
