In the May 2004 budget, the Office of Transport Security, within the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, received $2.4 million over four years to fund the Office of Transport Security's role in critical infrastructure protection.

Transport infrastructure is included among identified nationally significant critical infrastrucuture which if damaged or destroyed would affect Australia's ability to conduct defence, security or business.

The Office of Transport Security has established the transport segment of the Trusted Information Sharing Network (TISN) which currently includes active groups for the rail, maritime and aviation sectors.

The Attorney-General's Department is responsible for coordinating Critical Infrastructure Protection across the Australian Government. The link below will take you to a website dedicated to the TISN.
